Mrs. Barb Johnson-Frank's second grade class received a once in a life time surprise on Wednesday when author Jacqueline Woodson made a stop in their Elliott classroom. Students knew immediately who the visitor was as well as many of her books.

The visit was a warm and exciting experience for all, sure to be remembered by students for many years!

During a question and answer opportunity in Ms. Woodson's Elliott presentation, one of Mrs. Frank's former students related to Ms. Woodson that his class read many of her titles the previous year, when he was in 2nd grade. Obviously a memorable experience then, and now!

Thanks to Lincoln Public Schools and the Natural Resources District, every 2nd
grade class in Lincoln receives painted lady butterfly larvae (tiny black
caterpillars). Elliott 2nd graders cared for their larvae, and watched them
grow and shed their skins. The larvae attached themselves to a surface in a "J"
position and formed chrysalises. After 7-10 days, adult painted lady
butterflies emerged. These photos show some of them, enjoying blossoms on sedum
plants. Picture at right.
